President Biden is facing pressure to address the immigration crisis in cities like New York. His administration is prioritizing assistance for eligible migrants in obtaining work permits. Currently, federal law requires a six-month waiting period for asylum applicants, which is straining available resources. They are specifically targeting migrants who qualify for immediate permits but have not yet applied. To reach these individuals, the administration has sent over a million text messages in multiple languages and distributed fliers with QR codes. The exact number of eligible migrants who have not applied is unknown, but substantial funding has already been allocated, with additional requests made to Congress. This initiative is a response to calls from Democratic leaders and the rising costs associated with the crisis.

On the other hand, Republicans advocate for stricter border security measures, while the administration blames them for opposing more comprehensive immigration reform. It is important to note that this crisis presents various political challenges and does not fully address factors such as New York's right-to-shelter law and the limited information available regarding migrant whereabouts. The Democrats have always been a little moderate when it comes to addressing immigrant issues, whereas the Republicans have always shown a hairline stand. Allowing eligible immigrants to apply for work permits is beneficial for the US government in the long run because when you grant work permits, you can also collect taxes. Furthermore, the US also gets cheap labor.

According to what I have heard, the work permit has been something quite difficult to obtain under this last mandate of the Democrats, many immigrants have not been eligible for said permit for a long time, simply receiving financial aid from the state and without being able to do much, many immigrants have complained that they are not allowed to work and are forced to live on state financial aid.

Well, You can compare Obama's term with Trump's term. Trump built a wall to stop immigrants. However, deportations were very high during Obama's term. I think it is more of a personal preference of the president rather than the parties this president represents. As far as work permits for eligible migrants is concerned, I think the adminstration should be open to this and adopt massively. That's because you cannot just allow people to enter your country and yet deny work permit.

The main goal is to make society more welcoming and recognize the valuable contributions immigrants bring. The White House's support for eligible immigrants applying for work permits aims to help them become fully involved in the American workforce and integrate into the economy.
