If you are interested in obtaining a license for the upcoming Goliath grouper season, which runs from March 1 to May 31, there is an important update you should be aware of. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has initiated a new application process for permits, and the application period extends until October 15. The permit application carries a fee of $10, along with additional charges. Following the submission of all applications, a random-draw lottery will be conducted to allocate a total of 200 permits.

Should you be fortunate enough to secure a permit through the lottery, the cost will be $150 for residents and $500 for non-residents. It's essential to note that there are specific regulations in place. Goliath groupers must fall within the size range of 24 to 36 inches to be retained, and each individual is limited to harvesting only one fish per year. Furthermore, there are designated areas where harvesting is prohibited. Please refer to the complete article available here

The new Goliath grouper permit application process in Florida is both exciting and stringent. The lottery system aims to ensure fairness, but the fees are significant. Conservation measures like size restrictions and harvesting limits are vital to preserving this species.
