The Florida Department of Environmental Protection is nearing a pivotal decision on the wetlands permit for Bellmar Village, a proposed Collier County development. Collier Enterprises needs a Section 404 permit under the Clean Water Act for the 1,000-acre project, raising concerns about its impact on endangered species near the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge. The decision will weigh environmental impact, wildlife crossings, and panther habitat preservation, with a public hearing preceding the final verdict. Sounds like they're closing in on an agreement to make this happen. Seeing as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service determined it was suitable to go ahead, but clearly there is some opposition.

As long as the Panthers and other animals are safe from the build, I think it will be fine. But this is still 144 acres we're talking about, so either way a lot of land being used up to build something. It's going to take a while longer to clear I imagine.
