What is your building permit turn-around time?

Our building permit turn-around time depends on the project classification. Over the Counter (OTC) Plan Checks are done within the same day, usually 30 mins to 1.5 hrs delegated per OTC Plan Check. Expanded Counter Plan Checks (ECPC) are typically 1.5-2 weeks. Regular Plan Checks are about 3-5 weeks, depending on the department load at the time of submittal. Express permits are typically done within 20 minutes, unless there are certain procedures the project requires such as obtaining clearances from other departments.

Residential Building Permits are typically ready within a week if everything is handed in at the beginning of the process when the Health Permits are ready. Trade Permits can be ready within a day or two if forms are complete or even issued at the counter if they come in person and we're not too busy to stop and do it for them. Otherwise they are emailed to them in a day or two. Commercial Building Permits require more and so are usually about 2 weeks or sometimes more, depending on what is needed or how detailed they are. We're a small county so not typically getting many of these.

Our turnaround time is typically 2-3 weeks as well. And it also depends on the type of project. New commercial buildings tend to have an extensive turnaround time.

We can get plans reviewed and permits issued in just a couple of days but just in case I always tell everyone that planning review can take up to 2 weeks.

Underpromise/overdeliver is always prudent when it comes to permitting timelines and for ensuring customer satisfaction.

We always tell people our max for 1st review is 4-6 weeks for bigger projects and let them know that smaller projects will likely take a lot less time to review. Permits for minor things such as window replacement, roof replacement, siding, etc. can be issued the same week or sometimes even the same day depending on the workload of our building inspectors.

We are completely electronic for review. Residential is 10 days and commercial review cycles run in 15 business day increments. We also offer express review for simple projects. Residential 500sqft or less, garage conversions, patio covers, etc. Commercial simple remodels, racking, etc.

The more proactive an individual is, the time it takes gets shaved down. Yes, it depends on the complexity of the project, but if you can simplify things for what the jurisdiction has to do they'll appreciate that and push it all through faster.

Most of the time.

Our permit turn-around time in our jurisdiction is 10 business days for residential, and 15 business days for commercial.

With the market slowing down, our current turn around time is about a week for Planning & Building review or just a few days for Building review. Over the counter is processed within 24-48 hours.

Our permit turnaround time is 10 business days for residential, and 15 business days for commercial.

Our timelines are as follows:

Commercial New or TI over 8000 sq ft. 21-business days to first comments - after that it depends on how long it takes the applicant to resubmit.

Commercial remodel or TI under 8000 sq ft. 10-business days to first comments
Commercial Other - RTU's, furnace, water heater shingle roof - 5-business days sometimes shorter as these are usually like for like and is an easy approval.
Commercial Hot roof - 10-business days as Fire also reviews.

Residential Tract with Master plan - Tract home 5-business days
Residential Custom - 21-business days
Res AC - Furnace - Re-Roof water heater 1-business day
basements, decks, pergola, patio cover detached garage etc. 5-business days.

I am missing some and there are always the outliers that do not fall into a category. Next year we are going Red Yellow Green so after the initial time period if the review is Red it is a start over.
Yellow is a 11 business day and Green is a 6 business day re-review AFTER the plans are resubmitted. This will really help with those contractors that wait until the day before a review is due to resubmit plans and expect that they will get their approval the next day.
