We are working with a client under a contract for interior services, a permit was granted based on drawings provided, without us as AOR in 2025,
Recently the client contacted us because the B.O. was confused by the IEBC applied for their stair builder replacing an existing historic staircase w/ a guardrail and handrailing to meet IBC code (improving safety), as a "Repair" granted by-right in the IEBC.
The client came back to us saying that the B.O. had requested we stamp the stair builder's drawings... which are limited shop drawings reflecting the repair/reconstruction of the stair which continues an ex'g nonconformance while making improvements where technically feasible. The stair issue was not in our scope, and given the non-conformance what we would prefer, and it seems like census of other colleagues, is to provide sealed as-built drawings of the stair, with affidavit that the new stair complies to the IEBC requirements regarding "no less.." in regards to dimensional requirements.
How have other people handled issues like this, and what did that negotiation look like with the B.O.?
