Hi all, Patrick here, from Massachusetts. I work with building permit data from towns around the state, mostly helping local trades see where renovation and construction work is picking up.
Spending time with permit records from a lot of different towns has made me appreciate how differently every department runs things. Some publish monthly reports, some post weekly lists, some keep it all in their permitting software. I'd like to understand the department side of it better.
Question for anyone in Massachusetts or New England: if a member of the public wants a regular copy of issued permits (say a monthly export), what's the easiest way for your office to handle that? A records request, a standing request, or just an email to the right person?
And for the contractors here: do you keep an eye on new permits in your area, or does work mostly come to you by word of mouth?
