If you got your pistol permit in New York State before September 6, 2020, there's a new way you have to get it renewed. Now, you have to renew your carry conceal permit every three years and your premises permit every five years. Remember, the state doesn't take paper forms for this anymore. You have to do it all through the NYS Police, not at your local County Clerk or Sheriff’s Office.

Starting from September 13, 2023, get ready to pay a $9 fee to the dealer when you buy a firearm, and a $2.50 fee along with a background check when you buy ammunition. If you have any problems while renewing, you can call the NYS Police at 855-529-4867 or email them at PistolPT@troopers.ny.gov.

Much better than every year. 3 years for conceal carry and 5 for premisses doesn't sound too bad. I can't stand when they force us to do yearly I bi-yearly renewals. This seems much more bearable.

The new regulations and fees surrounding pistol permits in New York seem excessive and unnecessary, creating more hurdles and expenses for law-abiding gun owners. It's a frustrating and burdensome development.
