What is one thing you wish your clients/the public understood about your job and the permitting process in general? What do you think is the most common misconception?

That the permit techs literally do not make these rules and codes, we are just there to ensure they are followed and understood. The most common misconception to me is that we are the bad guys who "tell people what they can and can't do with their property", when yes we take on that role but it's not because of something that we thought up and pulled out of thin air to just be a pain. There is a reason for the codes and regulations, they actually save lives.
