Hello!
This is a two-part question. For context, I am revamping my department's webpages, trying to make everything flow and make sense, so to speak. Feel free to check it out here: https://www.sequimwa.gov/1066/Community-Development

My question is, what do you wish you knew before you got into the role you're in now? Is there something I should include on the webpages that isn't there now? What do you wish more people (first time homeowners, DIYers, contractors) knew?
Your feedback is greatly appreciated! :)

That's a great question, Emily C!

I wish more DIYers considered the possible hazards involved in their project as part of their planning process. Some homes contain lead, others have asbestos, and so on. It's not a good idea to just go around knocking walls down. I wish my local government did a better job of flagging these potential issues.

Emily, I really like that there is a section for Department Notices on your website. I feel like that is very helpful for customers to get the word out regarding new changes or something that the public needs to know right away. The website is very thorough and it looks like most questions would be easily answered online.

Thank you for taking the time, Karah, and for your feedback! :)

What I wish I knew is how fragile our website is when it comes to permit applications since we mainly have issues with how sometimes it gets laggy and people don't get their permit that requires us to resend. For the public, especially contractors, they would need to know that when they go to apply and pay for a permit, they would need to check with their city if it requires a business tax registration number in order for us to renew their licenses in our system.
