    I can't say that I blame them. Those rigs send smelly fumes into the air, and they're much louder than you'd probably think. If the company wants to expand its permit, let the company pay the people who will be the most affected by the expansion. Then it's a win-win situation.

    Some of these rules are a result of people failing to use their common sense. Naturally, your neighbors don't want a loud gun range to pop up next door. The enjoyment of your Second Amendment rights is limiting your neighbor's right to the quiet enjoyment of their property.

    Our permit fees increase every 5 years or so, mostly to keep up with inflation. The money gets used for the standard stuff that you'd expect, but it also funds our public parks. Property taxes, on the other hand, seem to increase whenever the assessor feels like it.

    I'm not surprised that it happened. Unless you're working with a vetted professional, it's easy to miss all the permits that are needed for a project. Honestly, the family got off easy compared to the fines I've seen before. At least they have a chance to make things right.

    I assume these animals are being hunted for food, rather than for sport. Some people still rely on hunting to fill their freezers with meat, and I imagine that many disabled vets are on a tight budget, so maybe this will help.

    Harvest hay on the highway

    I've just found a nifty, free permit that I want to share. In Kansas, you can apply for a permit to harvest the hay that's growing on the state highways. The highway department warns that there could be chemical residue within the hay due to runoff, so I'm not sure who would actually benefit...
