Early access lottery for a camping permit

I never seem to win these things, and I don't know anyone who does, so I often wonder if the whole thing is rigged. Even though we didn't win the lottery, my family and I still managed to book a spot at Yellowstone. There are several campgrounds, but they fill up fast.

False alarms are bogging down emergency services

I could easily see it happening. Imagine the neighbor hears the alarm and automatically calls 911, believing they are helping you. Many systems use an app, which enables you to get alerts anywhere. I'd say many people who receive false alerts about fires, floods, or thieves probably contact...

Does your permitting office have a "performance culture"?

I don't believe so. I know they're expected to meet certain metrics, but beyond that, it's mostly just an exercise in punching the clock if the newspaper is anything to go by.

    Howdy from an assistant

Welcome to the group, @ClaxtonRR. I'm glad you decided to make an account after checking things out. This is a nifty forum that's chock-full of handy information. We're a friendly bunch, so feel free to jump right in.

Are recent firings causing permit delays?

I'm curious about whether you've noticed if the recent spate of bureaucratic firings have caused delays with issuing permits? It takes a while to obtain an environmental permit as it is, so I can't imagine that weeding out office staff is helpful.

Permitting reform with clean energy on the line

I can see it both ways; however, I do believe that environmental lawsuits have gotten out of control. It seems that whenever a coal, oil, or natural gas company is granted a permit, they get sued into oblivion.

    Teenage work permit in Ohio

Since it's nearing summer, I believe that the requirement only takes effect if your son is 16 or younger. It looks fairly easy to obtain. You can find the form right here.

    Who to follow?

We're looking into adding a sunroom to our house. While researching our options, I noticed that my city's permitting requirements differ from the state's requirements. In a situation like this one, which one should you follow?

Benefits of an Enhanced Handgun Carry Permit in Tennessee

I don't live in that state, but I believe that's the one that grants lifetime rights. Is that correct? I also think the permit goes with the person, rather than the gun itself. So, anyone who has an enhanced gun permit can carry any handgun.

LA County's New Home Cooking Program

I bet lots of people will continue to break the permitting rules. Once you factor in the cost of supplies and labor, it doesn't seem like they'd be making enough to justify the expensive startup costs.

Avoid permit requirements by selling 'as is'?

It might work, though I wonder if those circumstances would create a hardship when the buyer went to apply for a mortgage. So, it might be tougher to get it sold. I believe that selling a home 'as is' also lowers its market value. I doubt it's worth going that route.

Do permits enhance a property's value?

What's your opinion on this subject? I've read that pulling the proper permits, and being able to show that you've done so, improves the property's value on the market. I'm not sure that I agree with that, and no data was offered to suggest that it's true. I think building upgrades, or...

Permit details for Mainers flocking to Gloucester for short but sweet scallop season

I believe it's a combined total, and the fishing season ends once that total is met. That's how I read it, at least. Goodness, that's one expensive permit! I wonder how many pounds of scallop you'd need to sell in order to make your money back? Now I know why seafood isn't more affordable.

If self driving cars become a reality, will we be required to have a permit for one?

I believe you'd still need a permit when you're first starting out, and undoubtedly, a license would also be required once the permit expired. I say that because the human is supposed to be able to take over at any moment should the vehicle fail.

    Tips for vetting firms

I volunteer with Samaritan's Purse, and we're always looking for ways to move our permit applications through the system more efficiently. There are a few firms that claim to expedite permits. How do you check their claims? Do you have any tips for vetting these firms?
