The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has instructed the Illinois EPA to change its environmental permits. This incident occurred because EPA received a lot of complains from people against the Illinois EPA regarding how they they let General Iron, a metal recycling company, move to Chicago which is already dealing with pollution.
General Iron's move made a lot of people upset because it has a history of breaking rules and making the environment worse. According to the new rules, now, the Illinois EPA has to make sure that the community's thoughts and the companies' past actions are taken into consideration while deciding environmental permits.
