We took a vacation to Gatlinburg and along the way I noticed tons of sellers hawking homegrown fruits and vegetables. I asked about their permit process, and it turns out they don't need one. It's legal to sell your homegrown produce in the state. This means there's a low barrier to entry to start a roadside stand, so you're bound to have more competition, but you're also going to have a smaller outlay. Sometimes it's smart to look for ways around permitting requirements. I wish my state had a similar option.
