Software for tracking permits through their lifecycle

Can confirm that Tyler has lots of random little bugs on the backend. They and Bluebeam love blaming eachother for the issues, too. It's wonderful.

Software for tracking permits through their lifecycle

This is what happened in my jurisdiction - Finance was getting Tyler so permitting got Tyler. The systems don't talk to eachother though, so I love that for us.

Software for tracking permits through their lifecycle

LOL! I almost spit out my water!! We just went live with Tyler in October 2024. I have thoughts. My previous jurisdiction used SmartGov, and I really liked it. I think any software has its issues. Prior to Tyler, we used Vision, and everything was manually entered.

    How many Permits Tech?

It has its perks, but it is also stressful when there are a lot of land use projects in or building permits in. I'm constantly working on educating people on timelines and things like that.

    How many Permits Tech?

I am the only permit tech. Our department has 4 people total - our building official is also our building plans examiner, inspector, and fire marshal. We have an associate planner who does planning review, and a senior planner who is shifting into long range planning and Comp Plan stuff. I...

Helpful tips for transitioning permitting softwares?

Hi! As someone who recently went live with new software after being paper/scanner based, I can say it is a LOT to get used to, even with another person on board. Okay, where do I even start.... TEST. Test every scenario...someone who knows what they're doing, and of course someone who doesn't...

    Alternatives to Bluebeam?

hi! We use Bluebeam, as it is integrated into our permitting software....but a good alternative would be Adobe PDF. What vendor told you it wouldn't be the best? You can use projects and sessions which is awesome for collaboration...

    Records retention management

I totally agree with this, we are currently cleaning up our drive files and working with our legal team to get everything uploaded....and it is a messsssss.... consistency and communication are key. Having one person managing it if your department is small enough is a good idea so that there...

Does applying Stucco require a permit?

hmmm. My first thought is no, because stucco is cosmetic (like painting)... I don't know how that works in California though, so please reach out to your local building department. Is any of the stucco structural? If so, that would require a permit. Be aware, regardless of if the work requires a...

Could Higher Permit Fees Speed Up Review Times? A Genuine Inquiry

I am fascinated by this question and the discussion. I appreciate everyone's perspectives and insight. In short, I don't think people would appreciate spending more money on permit fees. They already think they're too high, and yes, that review takes "too long." We don't have an expedited review...

    How would you handle.....

Hey all! I have a fun real life scenario that I was brainstorming with a colleague yesterday, and I thought it'd be fun to get your thoughts... For context, we do not have a property maintenance code adopted. According to its residents, we have an apartment complex in town that is in dire need...

HGTV flippers hit with building violations

This happened in my town as well - someone who grew up here and ended up having a show on HGTV did some demo work or something like that without permits. Not the same people you mentioned, but it seems to be an unfortunate trend.

    Director's / Administrative Interpretations

hey everyone! I'm wondering if your jurisdiction has a form for the public to use to request a director's interpretation of something in the municipal code. I was asked to create one and would love to see what one looks like before I get started. So far, the jurisdiction I reached out to has...

    Telework

HA!! That is funny. I am constantly telling my husband that I can't work from home, ESPECIALLY when our kids are home....I love them, but DANG! They are NEEDY! And it's like he doesn't exist at all!

    Telework

Agreed. I would personally hate that. I appreciated taking my current role which is only a 20 minute commute, vs my previous being about 45. I remember when I was living in/stationed in San Diego, I lived less than 10 minutes from base, but it took about an hour to get there. Can't say I miss...
